Humanitarian Emergency (drought) in 2006

Madina Warsame Development Organization presented the Committee of the drought in Mogadishu as different types of food
February 15, 2006, a severe drought in western and southern Somalia has killed dozens of people, hundreds of livestock and raised fears of an outbreak of disease after seasonal rains failed.
"Animals and the people have started to die; this is an urgent matter for which we call the immediate attention and action on the part of the donors, UN agencies and other humanitarian agencies."
Somali government appealed for food, medicine and water tanks to cut the risk that hundreds of dehydrated residents may die while searching for water.
It is estimated that over the past four months because of drought and consequent malnutrition have died around 1100 people, including 500 women and children. The main problem is lack of water, due to the scarcity of rainfall in the last two years. This drought, which according to many is the worst in the last ten years, besides causing death by dehydration of men and cattle had a negative impact on grain production, which was insufficient to cover the needs of the population. If still not raining and the situation will not change soon these people will no longer support them.
Committee of the drought for Somalia people is highly motivated and well known locally and reliable.
